The little chicks

Elena lived in a casa chorizo, a long row house, with two other families. One of them had two children, 6 and 8 years old. Elena, at that time, was 14. Since the mother worked, she, despite her young age, took care of cooking and cleaning the room. The two little brothers followed her everywhere, since she, with her imagination, entertained them telling them stories she dreamed up.

One day Carlitos, who was the older one, said to her: "Tell me a story about how little chicks are born." "It's very easy: you plant a chicken bone and water it every day until the little chicks are born."

The house had a plot of land out back, and there the two little brothers went to plant the chicken bones. Every day, on their way home from school, they went to water the bones.

Until one day they got tired of it and complained to Elena about why the little chicks weren't being born, and she, very calmly, told them: "Maybe those bones weren't the right ones."

Many years went by. One of the little brothers, now a renowned doctor, gave a lecture, and Elena, a professional herself by then, attended. Afterward she went to greet him and, when he recognized her, he said: "You know, Elena? Now I have three little chicks (two boys and a girl) and nobody taught me how to raise them." The two of them laughed, remembering that story.

It was a happy moment for both of them. They never met again. This story shows us that with will and effort you can go from a casa chorizo to being a respected professional.
