She woke up crying

«The most precious object»
She woke up crying. She'd had a nightmare.
She dreamed she was 6 years old and lived in a house that had 3 patios, many rooms, all of them opening onto it with protective shutters.
In the house lived 7 children, she was the eighth and the only one who wasn't part of the family group. The mother had confided in her that the Three Kings were really the parents and put it to her, for Kings' Day I can't buy you two things, choose, a pair of new shoes or a toy. She chose the shoes. The mother bought them and told her to keep them so she could put them next to the old shoes on the night of the Kings, since the other kids didn't know the truth. She felt important for having a secret.
When the night of the Kings arrived the other parents convinced the mother that the little girl would feel bad in front of the other kids, with their toys, and when she explained she couldn't afford to buy a toy they decided to chip in to buy a celluloid doll. The surprise and the joy were incredible. Nobody explained to her that celluloid could get crushed and so that night she slept hugging her doll, which she had already named and caressed all day long.
The next day after having slept hugging it, her doll turned up with part of its body caved in, she didn't cry: she looked at it and said to it "don't be sad, I'll love you just the same." She kept her promise for many years. The day before this dream she had found the doll again, and during the dream she was able to cry what she hadn't let herself cry at 6 years old.
