Rain, or the Blond Angel

It's raining in the city, the heat is oppressive. On the street a mother runs with her baby in the stroller, she doesn't know if the water wetting her cheeks is the rain or her tears. With her child she's fleeing the man who abuses her, physically and psychologically.
She had put up with everything, but this time he tried to hit the baby and that decided her, she fled the house. Where to go? Her family lives in the countryside, she has no money, and to make it worse it's raining. She passes a church, she's not a believer but she looks for a place to shelter from the rain, there she nurses her son, she can't change him, she fled with nothing and can't go back for anything. He would kill her. The rain stopped, she runs off again with no direction, when her strength gives out she walks into a police station, they sit her down and she loses consciousness, she doesn't know how many hours she ran, she hasn't eaten or drunk anything, she's dehydrated.
A policewoman gives her something to eat and drink, they see to changing the baby and without asking questions they move her to a shelter where she'll be safe, there will be time later to learn her story. She had been a social sciences student who'd come to the city to study. She fell in love with a professor and after a while they went to live together. Everything was fine until she got pregnant and refused to have an abortion. That's when the abuse began. No one would have believed her, he was a social gentleman, he forced her to give up her studies, he didn't want people to see her pregnant, she couldn't go back to her family, her parents wouldn't understand, they were very simple people and to them family was sacred, she thought that once he saw his son things would get better, unfortunately it was worse, he hated him.
Little by little, and with psychological help, she began to recover. She found work at a clinic, finished her degree at another university and finally earned her diploma. Today she works to help other women in the same situation, and she puts so much love and understanding into it that they call her the Blond Angel. Her son is 5 now and she's seeing a coworker, and she recognizes that her first experience marked her for life.
She dreams of going back to her hometown with her family made whole, her husband and her son, to work there. But now she knows there are people with a double personality, and that's why she can help and stand by other women.
